The United States has grave concerns over the violence surrounding the vote in Guinea on March 22, and we condemn all such actions.  We call on the Government of Guinea to investigate in a speedy and transparent manner all deaths associated with demonstrations and the election, with the results of those investigations made public as soon as possible and any culpable parties brought to justice in a court of law.  The international community expressed strong concerns about the electoral registration process and lack of public dialogue on the new constitution that the Government of Guinea failed to address.  We share those concerns.

The United States has been a steadfast friend and supporter of Guinea and its road to democracy and development since its independence in 1958.  We will continue to support Guinea’s goals to strengthen its democracy and achieve prosperity for all its citizens.
