The Missions of the United Nations, the Delegation of the European Union, and the Embassies of the United States and France learned with sadness and disappointment that the funeral service for those who died during the October 14 and 15 demonstrations was tainted by the deaths of new victims of violence.
Our Missions will follow the outcome of the legal procedures conducted in order to shed light on those events (including the October 14 and 15 events), and to the charges brought against those responsible, whomever they may be.
Our Missions call upon all parties to use restraint, and condemn the use of violence and any act of provocation, by any perpetrator. We urge authorities to prioritize the effective management of public demonstrations by security forces.
Our Missions urge all political stakeholders to resume dialogue at the earliest opportunity, emphasizing responsibility and calm. In order to effectively prepare for the next election day, it is essential to preserve Guinea’s gains, including peace, the rule of law, and respect of human rights and democratic institutions.
