Location: Throughout Guinea
Event: COVID-19 and U.S. Embassy Operations in Guinea
As of July 6, 2020, Guinea has confirmed 5,521 cases of COVID-19 within its borders since March 12, 2020, and 33 hospital deaths. Guinea does not report non-hospital deaths due to COVID-19.
The Gbessia International Airport in Conakry is closed to commercial traffic, and there are no regular options for air travel into or out of Guinea.
U.S. government personnel in Guinea are teleworking to reduce the risk of transmission and the U.S. Embassy in Conakry has suspended all visa, DNA, and non-emergency services for U.S. citizens.
We do not anticipate that there will be any future U.S. government repatriation flights, and U.S. citizens remaining in Guinea should prepare to remain here for an indefinite and extended period until commercial flights are again available.
Please follow information about commercial options on the websites of commercial airlines operating in Guinea, such as Air France, Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, ASKY, etc., or by coordinating with a local travel agency. Air France occasionally operates flights from Conakry to Paris. Brussels Airlines has suspended all flights to and from Conakry through September 1.
If you have not already done so, please enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) as all information is disseminated through STEP messages.
We will announce via STEP messaging when we are able to reopen for non-emergency services. U.S. citizens may contact us via email at ConakryACS@state.gov for emergency services. We are currently only able to process renewals for passports that have expired or will expire prior to August 1, 2020.
If your U.S. passport is expired or will expire prior to August 1, 2020, email us at ConakryACS@state.gov so we can make arrangements for an appointment. You MUST include a photo of the biographic page of your passport and your local telephone number. The biographic page is the one that includes your name, date of birth, and photo.
If the request is for a minor child, please read the requirements on our website at https://gn.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/passports-children-age-16/ before you make an appointment. When requesting an appointment for a minor please provide the full names of both parents, and the adult (if it is not the parent) who will be bringing the child.
This is the only service we are able to provide at this time. Please do not email us with requests for services outside these criteria. We will notify U.S. citizens via STEP messages when we are able to provide additional services.
Pay close attention to the automated response you will receive when emailing this mailbox as we update that response daily with useful information that is likely to answer any questions you may have.
