Subject:  Possible Special Commercial Flights to the United States

Event:  The U.S. government does not anticipate arranging additional repatriation flights from Guinea to the United States at this time. U.S. citizens who wish to depart Guinea should do so as soon as a commercial option is available or be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. All information we develop on any commercial options will be disseminated via STEP.

Ethiopian Airlines:

Ethiopian Airlines and the Satguru Travel Agency are working to facilitate a special commercial flight for U.S. citizens and those eligible to travel to the U.S. on April 17. This flight had originally been scheduled for April 10 but was cancelled because not enough bookings were completed.

If you are waiting to get a better price, or to arrive at a different location in the U.S. you should accept that you will have to remain in Guinea until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, airports reopen, and airlines schedule regular commercial flights.

Passengers will be responsible for paying for the ticket upfront, approximately $3,500. You can purchase the tickets (cash only) directly from the travel agency.

You must purchase your tickets before Tuesday, April 14. You will be responsible for any arrangements or costs (lodging, onward destination or local transportation, etc.) beyond the initial destination of Newark, New Jersey. The Embassy is unable to make reservations on your behalf. You can work with the travel agency directly to book connecting flights to your destination in the U.S.

Once you purchase your ticket, the travel agency will provide you more details regarding the flight schedule. Final flight confirmation will depend on the demand. If sufficient reservations are not made and paid for, this flight may be cancelled.

Air France: Please see our April 9 Security Alert here https://gn.usembassy.gov/security-alert-current-status-of-evacuation-of-u-s-citizens-from-guinea/ for information on potential Air France options.

The Gbessia International Airport in Conakry is closed to commercial traffic, and there no current options for air travel into or out of Guinea. Visit our website at https://gn.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/ for additional information on these new measures.

The government of Guinea has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and declared a Health State of Emergency  through May 1, 2020.

On March 19, 2020 the Department of State issued a Level 4 Global Health Advisory to U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.

On March 14, the Department of State authorized the departure from any diplomatic or consular post in the world of US personnel and family members who have been medically determined to be at higher risk of a poor outcome if exposed to COVID-19.

U.S. government personnel in Guinea are teleworking to reduce the risk of transmission, have instituted telework and teleconferencing expansions, cancelled all but urgent outside meetings, and directed that only critical in-person meetings be held internally.

In response to the ongoing global COVID-19 outbreak the Peace Corps has withdrawn all Peace Corps volunteers from Guinea.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Warning for COVID-19 advising travelers to avoid all non-essential travel.
