On October 12, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Steven Koutsis attended the graduation ceremony for the new officer class of Guinean National Police Academy. The Guinean National Police Academy receives training and support from the U.S. Embassy Conakry through its Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The event was also attended by the Guinean Minister of Security and Civil Protection Albert Damantang Camara.
During his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Steven Koutsis congratulated the police officers for completing their training and noted the important role of the security forces in helping to protect human rights while fostering a safe environment for peaceful civic and democratic engagement.
In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Steven Koutsis noted that “The United States is committed to supporting credible, transparent and peaceful elections in Guinea. We believe that all parties must participate peacefully in the democratic process. The right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression and association are at the heart of a functioning democracy.”
